Narrow win for Blyth RFC away to Hartlepool

Rugby.

Hartlepool 19-22 Blyth RFC

Blyth travelled to Hartlepool for their second game of 2018 and came away with a narrow but well deserved win to stay joint third in the league.

Blyth started the game like world beaters and cruised into a 19 - 0 lead with tries by Barber, Calvert and Pattison, two of which were converted by Reese.

Things changed in the second half when, as has happened several times this season, the opposition changed their tactics and Blyth’s young and inexperienced side struggled to adapt.

The home side eventually scored three tries and two conversions of their own but Reese had the final say, slotting over a long range penalty to give Blyth the win which they just about deserved.

Next week in a rest week so no first XV gave but the seconds are away to North Shields. Next 1st XV game is at home to Prudhoe on January 27, kick of 2.15pm.
