New base for Ashington Karate Club

Ashington Karate Club is moving to the town’s new sports centre this month.

Training will be on Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings in one of the specialist studios with sprung wooden floors, air conditioning, heating when appropriate, and privacy for any shy beginners.

Ashington Karate Club is part of the Northumberland Karate Academy (NKA), which encompasses clubs at Ponteland, and Alnwick Sports Centres.

Ashington NKA, has produced more regional, national and international competitors than any other club in Northumberland, but also welcomes many more who simply like the idea of doing something different that will keep them fit and flexible into their senior years.

Many parents start training with their children and this is how some of their most senior instructors began their karate careers some 30 years ago.

Jill Kelly, 6th dan, and Trish Bruce, 5th dan, run the Saturday morning class at the new leisure centre, as well as teaching on the Thursday evening at the Josephine Butler Academy. Ian Willis, 6th dan, instructs the Tuesday night session at the new leisure centre.
