Newbiggin Boxing Club’s fighters have once again proved that they are up there with the best in the country.
Owen Rees, Joe Tyers and Michael Stewart travelled to Liverpool to take part in the National Schoolboy semi-finals on Sunday.
Stewart was up first and he gave a quality performance over three rounds, taking a wide points victory and giving him a place in next week’s national final.
Also reaching next week’s final is reigning champion Tyers. He also took a wide points decision, with at times looking like the fight could have been stopped.
Rees was unfortunate to be on the wrong side of a split decision against the last year’s reigning champion McKenna.
On Friday, Newbiggin’s Courtney Scott took a comfortable points victory at the Dunston Fed, Lancastrian Suite.
Newbiggin’s next show will be on Saturday, May 31, at Ashington Football Club and will be an open air event, the first of its kind in the area.
