Nicholson boys showing good form in the ring

The Nicholson brothers, Leon and Lloyd, are hitting good form at the right time with a home show scheduled for May 23 at Ashington Comrades Club and a club match in Belfast.

The brothers boxed well in Middlesbrough recently with Leon catching the eye with a hard hitting performance against unbeaten South Bank boxer J Simpson with Leon taking the bout on points.

The brothers travelled down to Keighley in West Yorkshire last weekend where Leon took on local unbeaten favourite M Tomsa, with Leon again awarded the decision.

Next up was Lloyd, and after a great start he found his range and after two standing counts the referee had seen enough and he was awarded the contest on a second round stoppage.

And to cap off a perfect night, Leon was awarded best boxer of the tournament.

The Nicholson brothers are carrying on a great boxing tradition from Lynemouth.

The fighting O’Keefe brothers boxed all over the north east with distinction in the 1930s and onwards and now Lynemouth can be proud of the Nicholsons.

Tickets are available for the Empire’s last home show of the season on May 23.

These can be obtained from the club in Cowpen Road and Ashington Comrades Club.
