Newbiggin golfer Billy Bennett will represent Northumberland on Monday, May 16.
Bennett started golfing at the age of 11 at Newbiggin, which then boasted a junior section unrivalled in the country.
“I played my first Northumberland county juniors match at the age of 16 and went on to represent the full county team,” said 55-year-old Bennett.
“I have reached seniors age and have had many years playing all over the country.
“To be selected to represent Northumberland, who will play Lancashire on Monday at Lancaster Golf Club, this is a great honour for me to have played at all levels.
“I only wish more young people could get involved in a sport which is competitive and teaches the correct ethics of how sport should be played.
“Anyone who would like their kids to play should contact either the pro Colin Ferguson or club manager John Young at Newbiggin Golf Club.
“It is not expensive as there are many incentives for youngsters and it is a fantastic way for them to meet new people.”
