Northumberland quartet compete in Mallorcan triathlon

Four members of Tri Northumberland travelled to Alcudia, in northern Mallorca, for the Ironman 70.3 Mallorca.

Iain Katz, from Cramlington; Adam Rowe, from Burradon; Marius van Aswegen, from Bedlington; and Charlotte Woodcock, from Stannington, were hoping to put on a good performance, with Iain and Charlotte raising money for North Northumberland Hospice.

After the swim and cycle, the 13.1 half marathon run was done in ever increasing temperatures.

All four gritted their teeth and came through with overall finishing times of Rowe 5 hours 44 minutes, Katz 5h 52m, van Aswegen 6h 49m and Woodcock 7h 39m.

Seven members took part in the Alnwick Triathlon with Andy Niven finishing fourth in 1h 3m. Ryan Shiel was 33rd in a time of 1h 12m, his father Brian Shiel in 41st in 1h 15m.

Iain Fenwick was 50th (1h 17m), Andy Gowens 71st (1h 21m), Anthony Thornton 119th (1h 31m) and in her first foray of the season was Tri Northumberland’s sole lady competitor Jenny Edgell was 135th (1h 38m).
