Cramlington Rockets are enjoying a bumper start to 2015 after setting a record for the highest attendance at a rugby league camp in the north east.
A total of 65 children attended its February half term camp at Cramlington Sporting Club, with the camp being led by the recently launched Rockets Community Department’s coaches and is only the second camp the team has officially ran.
So far this year, the department has set a record for number of school children coached in one day and for attendees at its January Open Day.
Community development manager Steve Beaty said: “I’m so proud to see a big turn out like this. It’s been a busy four days but the attitudes of the kids have been fantastic and make it so worthwhile.
“At the Rockets Camps, we have children who play for the club, children who might fancy joining the club and children who just enjoy staying active during the holidays.
“It has been really pleasing to see everyone integrate and it shows the rugby league and the Rockets are a place for everyone.”
The Rockets are now taking bookings for the Easter holidays; the camps will run Monday to Thursday in week 1 and Tuesday to Friday on week 2.
The camp is suitable for five to 15-year-olds, held at Cramlington Sporting Club from 10am to 3pm and is only £10 per day.
