BLYTH youth rugby under-17s got their season off to a good start at Ryton with a 16-10 win.
The first league game of the season turned out to be a tough encounter as the opening 15 minutes was back and forth until Blyth broke through to score a try to break the deadlock, a wonderful score by Devon Rees
But Ryton came back and equalised within two minutes.
Blyth started to pile the pressure on and Cori McCardle kicked two good penalties to put his side 11-5 ahead.
As half-time drew close Shaun Robinson broke the line and scored a well worked try to take the score to 16-5.
In the second half Blyth were camped in the Ryton half but were unable to stretch their lead due to some fine defensive work.
It stayed this way until the last five minutes when Blyth had two players sin binned, Liam Oates and Dan Arrowsmith.
And with the last move of the game Ryton scored an unconverted try.
