Pool league finals nights line-up complete

WITH only three weeks left of the BVPA’s inauguaral season left to play, the line-up for the last two finals nights was completed.

In the doubles knock-out quarter-finals, all four teams have players who have previosly won – P Bell and E Healy (Bedlington Station) beat K Barker and D Brown (Seahorse); former BVPL & BPA champions P Chadwick and D Hewitson (Newsham Side Club) went through against A Scott and W Cowling (Sports Club B); current BVPL champions C Gill and A Robertson (Bedlington Station) beat A Bell and B Fullbeck (Comrades Club A); in the final all Comrades B game, I Carr and S Taylor beat A Henderson and S Brooks.

The semi-finals and final will be played to a conclusion at Blyth Sports Club on Tuesday, May 22, with games starting at 7.30pm.

The last 16 of the singles was also strong with a number of multiple former and current champions in the draw.

In the first game Kevin Barker (Seahorse) beat Bob Foggett (Comrades A) 3-1.

Then Gary Wilson (Sports A) beat Steven Foggett (Comrades A) 3-0.

In the pick of the ties, England internationals Chris Gill (Bedlington Station) and Paul Riley (Sports Club A) went to the last frame with Gill winning the decider 3-2.

Scott Jackson (Bedlington Station) came from 2-1 down to beat Wayne Fletcher (Sports Club B) 3-2.

There was another comeback at Bedlington Station where team members Jason Watson and Chris Hall went to a deciding frame with Watson coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2.

Neil Taylor (Sports Club A) beat Davy Styles (Percy Arms) 3-0.

The last game of the night saw the biggest comeback as Ian Carr (Comrades Club B) looked set to triumph 3-0 but went in off the black to give his opponent Chris O’Neill (Sports Club A) a lifeline.

O’Neill then produced some good clearances under pressure to win 3-2.

The quarters, semis and final will be played to a conclusion at Blyth Sports Club on Wednesday, May 23, with games also starting at 7.30pm.

The BVPA are inviting all eight-ball pool fans to turn up for four nights of action with a host of the best local players taking part.
