The Blyth Valley Pool Association 2015 Summer League is under way with ten teams competing over seven weeks with the top four going into a play-off at Blyth Sports Club on Thursday, August 13.
Percy Arms 3 Comrades 9
Percy Arms are one of a number of new teams in the BVPA’s Premier League next season and they have taken the opportunity to play in the Summer League. Comrades captain Steven Foggett and BVPA debutante Ian Clark were the man of the match winners with each having a 100 per cent record from their three games. Paul Dodds, Dale Richardson and Kevin Sams with singles victories recorded Percy’s points. The result puts Comrades second and Percy ninth.
Sports Youth 4 Irish 8
Up and coming youngsters at Sports Youth had the hardest game on paper, taking on BVPA Super League champions Irish in their opening fixture. Irish dominated the singles with Gary Spooner, Andrew Doyle, Paul Thompson and captain Jason Ritson winning to give them an 8-2 lead. Sports Youth rallied in taking both doubles to make the score respectable. Gary Spooners’ break and dish earned him the man of the match honours. Irish are fourth on 8 points and Sports Youth sixth with four points.
Sun Inn A 8 Wharton B 4
A Bedlington derby saw Sun Inn A take on another of the new teams, Wharton Arms B. The Sun boys edged a competitive match with John George Armstrong and Alan Halliday taking the man of the match honours with a three-point haul each. The result means Sun A are fifth on eight points and Wharton seventh with four.
Sports D 9 Sun B 3
Sports D captain Phil Welch was man of the match with a 100 per cent record from his three frames, which helped provide the foundations of a comfortable 9-3 win over Sun B. Dean Seymour provided the away team’s resistance with two singles victories. The other 100 per cent record on the night was from Sports D’s Chris Scott with a brace of singles wins. Sports D are third on nine points and Sun B are tenth on three points.
Bebside Inn 3 Station 9.
The Station showed their quality with a comfortable win at Bebside. The result puts Station first, albeit alphabetically at this early stage. Bebside Inn are eighth.
The BVPA have unveiled their provisional fixtures for the 2015-16 season and with seven new teams currently on board, there will be two leagues for the first time, with each having its own singles, doubles and three-a-side competitions, which will be a first for any pool league in Northumberland.
Venues still wanting to get a team registered will have until mid-August before a finalised fixture list is done.
