ROUND five of the Ian Whillis Memorial Darts Trophy took place on Monday night.
This week saw the appearance of the current champion and world ranked player Tony Eccles, from Hartlepool, and it would be Eccles and Tyne and Wear’s Paul Williams who would make their mark on the evening’s events,
Williams had to be at his best to fend off the challenge of Jarrad Wilson and Chris Dobey while Eccles was in sparkling form in gaining victories over Darren Shields, J Derbyshire and Keith Wright to join Williams on finals night in August.
The ladies Milton Anderson Memorial Darts competition saw a new name come to the fore with Yvonne Spowart making it through to finals night by dealing with a stiff challenge from M R Grey and then taking the spoils against Carol Rydz,
Hilary Smith was the second qualifier on the night, coming up against and dealing with tough competition in the form of Rachel Brown and Janice Fairhurst.
Both competitions resume on Monday.
