Rockets add to their growing numbers off the field

A host of new volunteers have joined a local rugby league club.

Following an increase in the number of teams and players, Cramlington Rockets have added a number of new faces across its ranks.

For the U8 and U10s, Sarah Stephenson has joined as team manager, allowing Paul Dunham to focus on his coaching alongside Mark Hennessey and Phil Stephenson.

The U12s is a new age group for the club, with Paul Chandler and James Kinloch both donning their boots to coach, assisted by Steven Beaty.

Caroline Beck has joined the team as a matchday helper for the U14s, assisting with pre and post-match activities, and Rob Phillips has taken up the clipboard as team manager for the U15s and U16s, after Sean Bettison was forced to take a step back due to work commitments.

Off the field, Lorraine Birbeck will be continuing to help with events and post-match hospitality and Tracey Peggie has joined as funding officer to help acquire grants and sponsorship.

Chairman Jeff Ball said: “As we continue to grow, it is only natural that we need more people to help the club so it is great that we have so many keen to get stuck in.

“What sets us apart as a club is the enthusiasm and quality of our volunteers, and the sheer number of them.

“We are approaching nearly 30 volunteers now, amazing considering we had maybe half a dozen when we moved to Cramlington in 2009.

“Everyone involved understands the values of the club and how we maintain the highest standards to constantly improve while keeping the people involved at the heart of everything we do.

“Respect, Commitment and Fun is the club philosophy and everyone that has joined epitomises those values.”

The Rockets are still looking to add more volunteers across a range of roles.
