THE inaugural North East State of Origin is due to take place next month with players from one Northumberland rugby league team due to take part.
Tyne and Wear will take on County Durham on Sunday, March 18, in the event at Helford Road, Peterlee.
The State of Origin game is specifically to raise awareness of mental health issues and raise money for the registered charity Mind.
The game will see open age teams from the north east join together to take on their county rivals, and the squads will be made up from a range of teams including Cramlington Rockets.
Dean Barnes, event organiser, said: “When I came up with the concept the idea was to raise awareness of mental health issues.
“As a rugby league fan it seems sensible to combine a great sport with a great charity.
“In addition to the players involved, we are also hoping supporters get behind the teams on the day and raise a substantial amount of money for a great cause.”
