Seghill overcome the conditions to beat Seaham

Seghill RFC first team travelled to Seaham to play their first game of 2016 in the Durham Northumberland League Division 3 in front of sizable crowd.

Sporting the better of the two teams’ recent form and having convincingly won their last encounter, Seghill had every right to be confident.

However, conditions hampered both sides as they played on a heavily water-soaked pitch which slowed the pace of the game down considerably.

Despite this Seghill ended the first half six points ahead courtesy of some poor handling from Seaham and two penalty kicks from Callum Burgess.

The second half continued to see Seghill edge dominance, and helped by a strong performance from wing forward Thomas Wright, they went on to score a further six points following another two penalty kicks by Burgess.

The lead could have been extended further had in not been for the challenging conditions but it ended 12-0 to Seghill, which sees them move into the top half of the table.

Their next fixture is at home to Chester-le-Street on Saturday, January 30, kick-off 2.15pm.
