Strong performances at triathlon

A total of 13 members of Tri Northumberland took part in the Newcastle-Woodhorn Triathlon held at the Woodhorn Museum and QE2 Country Park.

There were three distances in the event.

In the Beginners distance, Karen Singleton, from Newbiggin, finished in 19th and secured a podium in her category as third lady.

In the standard distance Andy Niven was first back in sixth position overall in 2:15;59. Ryan Shiel was next in 55th place 2:33:35, followed by Brian Shiel 76th, 2:39:00. Other finishers were Alex Olsen 97th, 2:45:17, Stephen Holmes 2:46;28 and Marius van Aswegen 140th 2:58:09.

In the sprint distance Tri Northumberland had three finishers in the top 50 Darren McBain was 23rd in 1:22:26, Stephen Locker 32nd 1:23:58 shortly followed by Iain Katz in 34th in 1:24:29.

Other competitors were Craig Gair 60th, 1:29:44, Chris Birch 65th 1:29:52, Suzanne Davies t79th in 1:31:07 taking 11 minutes off her time from an event over the same course last year, and Jenny Edgell 250th in 1:48:04.
