Just 18 months after expanding to include trampolining, young members of Wansbeck Gymnastics & Trampolining Club enjoyed success at the National Development Plan Finals at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham.
Five of the club’s young trampolinists fought their way through a tough regional qualifier to compete for the North in the next round.
And club coach Liz Naylor was selected as team coach for the North team.
Four of the five-strong team were able to compete in the finals and all achieved some impressive results.
Shannon Black came fourth in Grade 6 in the 17+ age category, Beth Candlish was fourth in Grade 2 in the 11-12 age category, Chris Bell finished third in Grade 2 13+ men’s age category and Kayla Devon was second in Grade 2 13+ women’s age category.
Overall the club have been delighted with the progress made in the first 18 months.
This latest success builds on earlier achievements in 2016 for Bell and Devon in the National Schools Finals, where Devon achieved fourth place in the novice section and Bell won the intermediate boys’ title.
Coach Naylor said: “We are delighted with the progress the club has made in a short space of time.
“We have some exciting young talent across the club and we’re looking forward to helping them continue to improve and develop.”
Wansbeck Gymnastics and Trampolining Club are based at Ashington Leisure Centre and provide gymnastics and trampolining sessions to over 250 members ranging from age 18 months to adults.
