Members at Blyth Running Club have had a busy time lately, travelling far and wide competing in races.
A total of 12 members took part in the Brampton to Carlisle race, with first back for Blyth being Jake Jansen in a time of 58 minutes – a personal best for the ten mile course.
Several club members also travelled to Maltby, North Yorkshire, to take part in the Maltby 7 Mile road race, Shaun Dodd was the first Blyth runner back with a top 50 finish, while Heather Christopher was the first Blyth lady.
Five club members took part in the Newcastle Town Moor Marathon, first back for Blyth was club chairman Iain Singer who also took the Northern Vets Championship Marathon Gold medal. First Blyth lady was Natalie Henderson while Davina Lonsdale was running her fourth marathon in as many weeks as she closes in on her target of completing 50 marathons.
The Juniors have been busy as well, with Josh Fiddaman winning the U13 Boys race at the Heaton Memorial Town Moor races, while Josh Martin took two silver medals at the recent indoor competition at Monkton Stadium.
Each month the Juniors have an Athlete of the Month award and the latest recipient was eight-year-old Lottie Christopher.
• On Sunday, December 7, the club are holding the 55th running of the Blyth Sands race.
Runners and spectators should be aware that this years’ race HQ will be the Dave Stephens building at the Blyth Links car park.
The race will start on the beach in front of the building, run towards Blyth harbour, turn and head towards Seaton Sluice harbour and return to the Dave Stephens building finishing on the beach, an approximate distance of five miles.
The first runners will be off at 11am. Entry forms are available at Blyth Sports Centre, online at www.blythrunningclub.org.uk although entries will be taken on the day.
