The 57th running of the Blyth Sands Race was run in ideal conditions for the runners with only two or three pools of water of varying depths to negotiate.
The race covered an out-and-back course from Blyth Harbour to Seaton Sluice starting at South Beach and was won by Elswick veteran Mark McNally, in the Over 65 age-group and running off a Handicap of nine minutes.
McNally held off the challenge of Jacqueline Keavney, of Richmond & Zetland, who as an Over 50 Woman was running off the same mark.
Lawrence Johnson of Low Fell in the Over 55 age-group and running off 5mins finished third.
Kurt Heron running off scratch as a Senior finished fourth, also clocking the fastest time of the day, while Jacqueline Keavney was the fastest lady.
Morpeth won the team prize, with Blyth second and Elswick in third place.

Blyth provides opportunities for young athletes between the ages of 8 and 17 years to receive coaching in endurance athletics events and also sprints, throws & jumping events.
All coaching is by qualified UK Athletics coaches who are trained and have been screened for their suitability for working with young people.
