Karate gold for Jessica in final
Ashington Karate Club recently had a team of 21 club members compete at the KUGB Northern Region Championships, where clubs from all over the north of England travelled to Sunderland to take part.
The club had a wide range of competitors, ranging from those with many years of competition experience, to those who were competing for the very first time. Everyone performed very well and were a credit to the club, and several students were also successful in making the finals of their categories.
Jessica Peel claimed victory by winning the Girls Under 5’3” Kumite (sparring).
Denny Shy placed second in the Children’s Black Belt Kata (set forms) and third in the Boys Under 5’ Kumite.
Charlotte Reason placed second in the Children’s Brown Belt Kata and third in the Children’s Ippon Kumite.
Sophie Gordon placed second in the Girls 10-11 Kumite.
Katie Knox placed second in the Adult Kyu Grade (below black belt) Kata.
Beverley Reason placed third in the Senior (21+) Female Kumite.
Gemma Gibson placed fourth in the Female Black Belt Kata.
Callum Caldwell placed fourth in the Children’s Brown Belt Kata.
The club was also successful in team events. Dylan Gibson, Gemma Gibson and Evie Ackroyd placed second in the Adult Team Kata, and Gemma Gibson, Evie Ackroyd, Frances Fisher and Beverley Reason placed third in the Female Team Kumite.
