Students help karate book launch
Four members of Ashington Shotokan Karate Club recently helped with the book launch of Karate Kids.
The new picture book is by author-illustrator Holly Sterling, who herself is a karate instructor and former international competitor.
The book launch took place at CitySpace in Sunderland.
The book follows the story of a new beginner in karate and is suitable for children aged 3+. Holly asked several local clubs to take part in the book launch. Charlotte Reason (aged 9), Kacey Alexander (8), Emmie-Ann Henderson (7) and Vinnie Henderson (5) were chosen by club instructors Sensei Jill Kelly and Sensei Trish Bruce to take part in the demonstration, which focussed on both kata (set forms) and kumite (sparring).
