Rain puts a dampner on Blyth as they extend lead

BLYTH were left frustrated in their game at Kirkley due to the weather but still increased their lead at the top by claiming full bowling points.

With Kirkley batting first, the Blyth opening bowlers of Kemp and Kevin Thompson made early inroads with two quick wickets.

David Dent caught Rowe for three off the bowling of Kemp, then Thompson bowled Ball for four.

Atkinson and Farrelly started to rebuild the innings with a substantial stand but the latter was bowled by Dent for 25.

Dave Walton soon followed, run out for eight, then Dent bowled Johnson for four and Mark Lawrence bowled Walton for five.

Atkinson passed his half century but on reaching 69 he was run out.

Antony Allen got into the wickets when he bowled Jason Ritchie for 25.

Lawrence then took the final wicket when he had Makepeace caught by Cameron Walker for seven as North remained seven not out.

Blyth’s bowling figures were Kemp 1-29, Thompson 1-26, Lawrence 2-28, Dent 3-49, Walker 0-27 and Allen 1-16.

Blyth had reached 17 without loss when play was brought to an end through heavy rain. Dent was 12 not out and Clark unbeaten on four.
