Heavy and incessant rain left its mark on the local cricket scene at the weekend with games involving Ashington and Bedlington in the Go North East Northumberland & Tyneside League called off without a ball being bowled.
The Colliers first team were due to be away at Leadgate with the seconds at home to Lintz whilst newcomers to the league Bedlington saw both teams’ fixtures against Benwell & Walbottle cancelled.
This weekend sees Ashington, who remain top of the A1 division by a ten- point margin from Alnmouth & Lesbury, renew old rivalries when Greg Williams will lead a full strength side against Tynedale at Priors Flat.
And second XI skipper Doug Potts will be looking for his side to record their second win of the campaign against Hexham at Langwell Crescent.
Bedlington firsts – only two points behind leaders Percy Main in the A2 division – are at home to Whickham with the second team away to Ryton.
Ashington’s midweek League Cup clash against Alnmouth & Lesbury was also affected by the weather with the game called to a halt in the 17th over with the Colliers 89-5.
Anirudh Singh had scored 40 and Ben O’Brien was unbeaten on 28 when the rain came.
