They made a bright start and three tries in the first 20 minutes from Weeks, Merryweather and Lumley, converted by Arkle, saw the Colliers in control.

Injuries to Mitchell Brown and Gareth Newman saw Ashington reshuffle their pack, Ryton taking advantage to claw their way back into the game, with their first try, but Henderson went over for a converted try to give the home side a 24-5 half-time lead.

Ryton hit back with four tries to go 24-29 in front.

But Turner grabbed the vital try under the posts with Arkle’s conversion securing the win.
