Early try but Vulcans strike back for win

A break by Owen Jarvis, playing at fly half, saw him feed supporting winger Brian Merryweather, who cut inside the covering defence to dive over for an early try, well converted by Jarvis.

But that was to be Ashington’s only scoring on a day when they gave debuts to Mule, Fiennes and Mallalieu-Blackas, Winlaton came back to take the victory.

Vulcans drew level at 7-7 at half-time, and pulled away in a second half littered by penalties.

This week Ashington are at home to Gosforth with over 40 past players attending pre match lunch. KO at 2.15pm.
