A quickly taken tap penalty after 15 minutes saw Whitby crash over for their first try. A yellow card handed the advantage to the home side who added another two tries to give Whitby a half-time 19- 0 lead. The home side extended their lead after the break before debutant Scott Maddison raced 80m to touch down, converted by Arkle. Ash lost two further players to yellow cards during a poor second half conceding a further three tries, two whilst down to 13 men.

This weekend Ashington 1sts are home to Darlington when they will be looking for a better performance.
