Seconds end with a victory

ASHINGTON seconds completed their league programme with a comprehensive 117 runs victory over Benwell & Walbottle seconds at Langwell Crescent.

Skipper Martin Thewlis led the way with a half century as the hosts totalled 168-7 from their 45 overs.

Dougie Potts scored 33 and Graham Rogerson an unbeaten 28.

Phil Hall was star performer with the ball for the visitors, taking 7-32 from 13 overs.

The visitors had no answer to pace bowler Ian Sharkey who took 3-13 from seven overs or spinner Trevor Christie who collected 5-4 from five overs.

Rogerson also took one wicket as Ashington wrapped up victory in convincing style.
