Table topping Ashington seconds claim maximum points haul

Ashington’s 2nd XI remain top of the B1 table after claiming another maximum 20 points, this time at home to Alnmouth & Lesbury, who were promoted last season.

Winning the toss and batting first, Ashington made steady progress through Doug and Matthew Potts who put on 64 for the first wicket. Doug Potts went on to bat until the last over and in doing so scored his second century of the campaign (107) in what was a great knock.

In reply Alnmouth were 0-2 at one stage with Craig Wood and Alex Storey dismissing the openers.

They were eventually bowled out in the 37th over for 105, despite a half-century from Rob Burnett (62).

Wood went on to take 3-25 and Doug Potts finished with 3-17 to make sure Ashington took maximum points.
