THE wickets were falling thick and fast at Langwell Crescent on Saturday as Ashington extended their winning sequence against Whickham seconds.
The home side were dismissed for only 136 with top scores from Scott Dunn (56) and Andrew Heatherington (48), who featured in a 70-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
In reply, Cameron struck 36 and Roberts 22 as wickets fell all around them.
Matty Collins got a hat-trick in his spell of 4-28 from ten overs and team-mate James Richards was on a hat-trick but didn’t succeed before finishing with 3-17 off 13 overs.
Afterwards, skipper Martin Thewlis said: “I thought we would get a score of 200, but bowling wise Whickham belied their lowly placing and performed well in bowling stump to stump.
“It was a good test for us because we didn’t put any partnerships together and Whickham made us work hard for our runs.”
On Saturday Ashington seconds are away to Ponteland seconds.
