Ashington Cricket Club’s first XI skipper Greg Williams hailed a ‘great performance’ by his side following their crushing eight wickets victory over Alnmouth & Lesbury at The Wicket on Saturday.
Williams said: “I lost the toss and would have batted had I won it. It was a good wicket, lovely sunshine and I would have backed ourselves to have performed well on it.
“I thought it looked a 280 pitch without a shadow of a doubt, with a small ground and fast outfield.
“Apart from the fact that we didn’t bowl them out, it was a great performance and I was over the moon that we limited them to 167.
“We were razor sharp in our ground fielding and the bowling was tight.
“Batting-wise, Neil Wood and Ani Singh gave us a great start, but they are capable of doing that against any opposition.
“They took the game away from Alnmouth in eight overs when they had 54 on the board, and the final outcome was really pleasing.”
