Hundreds join One Day to Sing event in Alnwick to raise funds for Alzheimer's Society

Hundreds of performers came together in Alnwick for One Day to Sing, a special event to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The event in the Market Square celebrated the joy of singing – even when the rain arrived later in the day!

The idea was Linnea Tormajer’s, the musical director of the Alnwick Allstars Choir. She and her husband, Dave Coulson, organised the event with a group of local volunteers.

Linnea said: “We’re over the moon with how the day played out and the rain didn’t stop us!

“We’re already planning to do it again next year. So far we have raised £4,000 for The Alzheimers Society and money is still coming in.”

Alnwick Town Council and local businesses sponsored the event and All About Alnwick helped to promote it, while many others pledged money, support and services to help make it happen.

Tracey Sprigg of All About Alnwick, who was one of the events team, said: “It was a feel good event that brought the town together and certainly raised awareness of dementia. ITV filmed the event and it was shown on the local news”

Chris Thorpe, one of the events team, said: “I became involved in the event after Linnea spoke to me about her idea. The effort made by the team to make this event special for the people of Alnwick, I found inspirational. I would like to thank the many local businesses I personally visited for sponsorship. Alzheimer’s is a worthy cause, it affects so many families and the amazing efforts by all should make the Alnwick community proud.”
