A county charity has this week launched an arts-based workshop based on the Tall Ships.
For Children’s Art Week, Headway Arts has worked in partnership with Berwick Visual Arts and Northumberland County Council to launch the As Tall as a Ship project.
Inspired by Blyth’s maritime history, the creative initiative is an arts-based workshop where children aged seven to 14 build boat sculptures from recycled materials.
The boats will be used to tell the stories of Blyth’s tall ships, in advance of an international festival in 2016, and of William Smith, the local sailor who discovered Antarctica.
Some of the largest and most spectacular tall ships in the world will sail into Blyth over the weekend of August 26 to 29 in 2016.
