Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon is back in Newcastle next month for his second show in the city since the band were put on hold in 2015.

The US alternative rock singer-songwriter’s last visit to the city was for a show at Westgate Road’s O2 Academy in November 2016 with the Crowes to promote his debut solo album, Painkillers, a No 13 hit that year.

This time round, though, he’ll be playing at the Boiler Shop, in South Street, backed up by the Howling Weather and with Dave Hause supporting.

Tickets for that show on Thursday, March 8, priced £24.75, have sold out.

The New Jersey-born 38-year-old is this side of the Atlantic to plug his follow-up to Painkillers. Titled Sleepwalkers and produced by Ted Hutt, it was released last Friday, February 9.

Next month’s Boiler Shop show will be Fallon’s fourth in Newcastle, his first two being with the Gaslight Anthem at the 02 Academy in November 2010 and with Dan Andriano, Chuck Ragan and Dave Hause at Northumbria University’s students’ union the year after.

Fallon’s tour with the Howling Weather winds up in his native US at the beginning of May, and after that the Gaslight Anthem will be getting back together for a series of shows to mark the 10th anniversary of their breakthrough second album, The ’59 Sound, coming out, and they’ll be playing it in its entirety. Also produced by Hutt, it was a No 55 hit here and a No 70 in America following its release in August 2008.

All three of the albums that followed from the band – formed in New Jersey in 2006 and made up of, besides Fallon, Alex Rosamilia on lead guitar, Alex Levine on bass guitar and Benny Horowitz on drums – made the top 20, American Slang reaching No 18 in 2010, Handwritten No 2 in 2012 and Get Hurt No 4 in 2014.

The Gaslight Anthem’s reunion tour won’t be bringing them back to the north east sadly, but they can be seen in London, Manchester, Dublin and Glasgow in July.
