A concert in memory of the victims of the 1862 Hartley pit disaster is taking place this weekend.
The concert is being held at the New Hartley Community Association hall, in St Michael’s Avenue, on Saturday at 7.30pm.
Stories, songs and music relating to the pit disaster of 1862 will be told, sung and played.
County Durham-born singer-songwriter Jez Lowe will be this year’s special guest.
The concert, now in its eighth year, is being organised by Keith Blackburn, of the local folk group Beeswing.
Fellow Beeswing member Dave Minikin said: “The experience has been exceptional, with new information being given to us every year.
“Material has been collected from local poets, writers, musicians and songwriters, as well as William Bell of the Miners’ Institute in Newcastle.”
Tickets cost £5 and are available from Keith on (0191) 237 3152 or Dave on 0796 719843.
